Sarah Savage was the oldest of seven children born to Thomas Savage and Elizabeth Buck (Washington Buck’s daughter), born on April 16, 1905 in Baltimore, Maryland.
In the summers, Sarah would visit Asbury Park, New Jersey with her neighbor from Baltimore. During the summer of 1927 at the age of 22, she was offered a job to work in Brooklyn, New York. She felt that she could not accept the job until she had discussed it with her family in Baltimore. Her mother encouraged her to decide for herself whether to accept the job or not. She decided to be adventurous and moved to Brooklyn to work in the fall of 1927. She married Robert Raymond. The couple had no children.
